About Us

The Lawrence Old Fashioned Christmas Parade was founded in 1993. It is the only exclusively “horse” parade in the Midwest and one of very few throughout the United States. This parade attracts entrants and spectators from many states as far away as South Dakota and Texas.

Management of the parade is vested in a Limited Liability Company which operates as a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization. Elaine Vandeventer has been the director and driving force of the parade since 2007. It’s mission is to preserve the historical significance of our entrants, educate and entertain our spectators and kick-off the holiday season. The success of this mission is dependent on countless volunteer hours and the financial support of the City of Lawrence and many businesses and individuals throughout Kansas.
